‘should’는 ‘shall의 과거형/의무/당연/추측/주관적 판단’ 등을 나타내며, 특히 의무나 당연을 나타낼 때는 ‘ought to’를 사용
* Everybody should wear car seat belts. (의무) * He should be at the library by now. (추측) * It's surprising that we should meet here. (주관적 판단) ‘will’은 ‘단순미래/의지/추측/주어의 습성/현재의 습관적 동작’ 등을 나타내며, ‘would’는 ‘will의 과거형/추측/과거의 습관적 동작/소망/고집’ 등을 나타냄
* I will have my own way. (의지) * Oil will float on water. (주어의 습성) * He would not tell us where he got the money. (고집) * She would often sit for hours doing nothing. (과거의 습관적 동작) 
‘used to’는 ‘과거의 지속적 동작이나 상태’를 나타내며, ‘지금은 그렇지 않다’는 의미를 포함
* I used to be afraid of dogs. (과거의 동작) * He used to wear a moustache. (과거의 상태)
‘be used to ~ing’는 ‘~에 익숙하다’는 의미를, ‘be used to do’는 ‘~하는데 이용되다’는 의미로 사용된다. * I am used to walking. * This machine is used to take a copy. |
